Why I’ll Always Choose Diesel Over Petrol

Ever since I started driving, I’ve had a special connection with diesel engines. My first car was a white Swift, powered by a diesel engine, and it set the stage for my love affair with this type of engine. The power, the torque, the fuel efficiency—there’s something about diesel that just makes sense to me, especially when it comes to SUVs.

My first true automotive love, however, was the Tata Safari, another diesel-powered beast. There’s something magical about pairing a diesel engine with an SUV. The sheer pulling power, the grunt when you step on the pedal, and the way it feels on the open road—it’s unbeatable. For me, diesel engines and SUVs go hand in hand, like they were made for each other.

Diesel vs. Petrol: What Sets Them Apart?
Diesel and petrol engines may look similar on the outside, but they have some key differences. Diesel engines are typically more fuel-efficient and produce higher torque, which is what gives them that powerful, effortless feeling, especially in larger vehicles like SUVs. On the other hand, petrol engines tend to be more refined, quicker to accelerate, and quieter, but they don’t offer the same kind of low-end grunt that diesel engines do.

Diesel engines also tend to last longer and are often considered more robust. For someone who enjoys long drives and covering serious miles, the durability and efficiency of diesel engines are huge advantages.

Modern Diesel Engines: Better Than Ever
Gone are the days when diesel engines were noisy, smoky, and slow. Modern diesel engines are quieter, smoother, and cleaner than ever before, thanks to advancements in technology. Many new diesel cars come equipped with turbochargers and emissions control systems that make them both environmentally friendly and thrilling to drive.

For me, it’s not just about nostalgia or habit—it’s about performance, reliability, and that feeling you get behind the wheel. Diesel engines, especially in SUVs, will always have a special place in my heart.
